At the end of the week ask an adult to check to see if you can spell these words without help. Remember to use the look, write, cover, check method. Story Telling – Chinese New Year Story
This week we are learning about a Chinese celebration called ‘Chinese New Year’. On February 12th 2021 it will be Chinese New Year. People often celebrate by cleaning and preparing their homes, wearing new clothes, eating special food and giving presents to friends and family. This Year it is the year of the Ox. - Can you look at some coins. What numbers do you see? What colour/ shape are the coins? Can you sort the coins from smallest value to biggest value? Start with 1p, 2p, 5p, 10p. If you want to extend this, try 20p and 50p.

Creative Development
People hang Lanterns up inside/ outside their homes for Chinese New Year. This is thought to scare aware the Nian monster and bring good luck. Can you Create a Chinese Lantern?

Talk about the clip ‘Jesse and Friends’. Discuss while the internet can be enjoyable and fun, there are sometimes things online that can be upsetting or scary. Problem solving–
Draw 5 fish and then cut them out. Count them on to a piece of blue paper. If 2 fish swim away, how many are left? Move the pictures to help you count. Can you ask a grown-up a question about the fish? How many swam away this time? Can you check their answer. You could extend this challenge by using more fish e.g. 10/20 etc. Take lots of pictures and upload to your hwb file. You could even record the sum on paper.
Creative Development
We have been learning about feelings in school. It is so hard not being able to see your friends and family. Sometimes it can make us feel a little bit sad inside. Did you know it is good to share a worry?
Can you make a worry monster? Use junk materials e.g. kitchen roll holders, cereal boxes, googly eyes etc to create your very own worry monster. If you feel worried about something you can share with your Worry Monster. Worry Monster’s eat worries for breakfast, lunch and tea. Problem solving– Can you measure 4 different sized shoes in your house. This might be your own, family member, doll shoes etc. Can you decide on a non-standard unit of measure to use e.g. coins, Lego blocks, pasta twirls, buttons or cheerios ? Problem solving– LRRH has 8 cakes. She needs to feed her grandma, mum, dad and the woodcutter (4 people). How many cakes will each person have? Can you share the cakes equally? To solve this problem, you could draw this out using pictures. Take a picture of your workings.
Use this diagram below to help you sort the cakes (you could draw circles on some plain paper/ in your workbook, and share the cakes equally in the circles) If you want to extend this challenge, try sharing 20 cakes!
Topic/ outdoors activities
Can you use lego/ blocks/ sticks/ stones etc to make a cottage? You could build this indoors/ outdoors. Alternatively, you could make a den for Little Red Riding hood using sheets, blankets.
Discussion- is your den waterproof? windproof? is it strong? soft? hard? camouflage? bright? How would you describe your den? Take a picture and upload to hwb!

Following last week’s story ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’, we have got am exciting task to do! The Butterfly wants to through a ‘Creepy crawly Party’ for all his bug friends.
We need to help him by writing an invitation to his friends. You can write to the spider, worm, ladybird, ant, snail, slug or the woodlice.
Rules for writing an invitation are;-
